1. (a) What is Computer? Explain various characteristics of a Computer System.

(b) How can one use computer to solve problems? Explain.

2. (a) What are peripheral device? Explain any three input devices and any three output devices in detail.

(b) Explain the need of interface between peripherals and central processing unit (CPU).

Section-B

3. (a) Differentiate between the following:

  1. RAM and ROM.
  2. Main memory and Auxiliary memory.

(b) Explain memory unit, also write its significance in computer system.

4. (a) Why do we need cache memory in computer system? Explain.

(b) Explain the role of cache controller in memory hierarchy.

Section-C

5. (a) What do you mean by formatting of a hard disk?

(b) What do you mean by partitioning of a hard disk?

(c) Differentiate between primary partition and secondary partition of a disk.

6. (a) Differentiate between multitasking and multi programming.

(b) Write and explain any two commands of DOS.

(c) Write any three major functions of operating systems.

7. (a) Explain major design issues of processor.

(b) What is parallel processing? Explain.

8. Explain the following:

  1. Power PC
  2. Ultra SPARC-II

Section-E

9. (a) Explain SCSI hard disk.

(b) Differentiate between parallel port and serial port.

10. Write short notes on the following:

  1. Intel Mother boards
  2. USB
