Note: Attempt five questions one from each Section. All questions carry equal marks.

Section-A

1. (a) What is instruction fetch cycle?

    (b) Discuss Micro operations with suitable examples.

2. (a) Write short notes on the following :

            (i) General purpose register & special purpose register.

            (ii) Index registers

    (b) What do you understand by memory reference instructions? What are the six important memory reference instructions?

Section-B

3. (a) Explain characteristics of CISC and RISC architecture for Microprocessor.

    (b) Write short notes on the following :

            (i) Amdahl’s Law

            (ii) Pipelining

4. (a) What do you understand by Array processor? Why it is used?

    (b) Write the important instructions of CISC processor with syntax.

Section-C

5. (a) Explain Booths multiplication algorithm in detail.

    (b) Multiply (1011)2 by (1100)2 using 2’s complement method.

6. Show the multiplication process using Booth’s Algorithm for (-7) x (+3).

Section-D

7. (a) Write short notes on the following :

            (i) I/O interface

            (ii) Interrupt and its types

    (b) What do you understand by Asynchronous data transfer?

8. (a) Give the block diagram of DMA controller. Why are the read and write control lines in DMA controller bi-directional.

    (b) How I/O devices are handled by CPU?

Section-E

9. (a) Define instruction? What are the different types of instruction used in Intel 8085 microprocessor? Explain with suitable example.

    (b) Comparison 8085 to Intel pro Pentium processor.

10. (a) Write a program in assembly for multiplication of any two numbers.

      (b) What are the uses of macros in IO instruction? Explain with suitable example.
