Note: Attempt all the five questions in all. Question No. 1 is compulsory.

1. (a) What do you mean by active and passive components? What are the various types of resistors and capacitors?3

    (b) Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a multi-meter.2

2. Find a expression for the growth and decay of current in a L-R circuit show that time constant (L/R) is the time in which current rises to 63% or decay to 37% of its maximum steady value. 7


3. State and prove Thevenin’s theorem? Give the main point of difference between Thevenin’s and Norton’s theorem. 7

4. (a) What is meant by a filter? Differentiate between low pass, high pass, band pass and band reject filter. 4

    (b) Explain the mechanism if light emission in a light emitting diode. 3

5. (a) Draw the symbol of npn and pnp transistor and specify the leads. Why is the base of a transistor made thin an lightly dropped?4

    (b) Name the classification of amplifiers based on frequency response. RC completed amplifiers are mostly used why? 3

6. (a) Explain Barkhauxan criterion and it’s importance in the working of oscillators. 3

    (b) What do you mean by an ideal OP-Amp? Explain how OP-Amp acts as a difference amplifier. 4

7. Write short notes on any two of the following: 7

    (i) Bridge rectifier

    (ii) Zener regulator

    (iii) Switched mode power supply
